The event is expanded into a two-part series. The first event will be on February 3rd and the final event in March. Each event will showcase different features in the rail park for local shredders to showcase their skills on.

Event #1 – February 3rd

Join us in the Rail Park for an in-person competition where you can showcase your skills on set features in front of our judges and your fellow shredders.

Event information:

PRE- EVENT

  1. Register for the event
    1. Registration is $15 (+tax)
    2. The online registration link is posted below
    3. **PLEASE READ PRIOR TO REGISTERING**
      • RCR Event Release Agreements are required to be completed during the registration process.
        • Competitors 16yrs and older need to complete one waiver, the Event Release Agreement – the competitor can do the Event Release Agreement themselves.
        • Competitors 15yrs and younger need to have their parent or legal guardian complete two waivers –  the Event Release Agreement AND the Parental Consent Agreement. So your parents/legal guardian must register you.
        • Once the agreement is complete, it will auto-fill the Agreement IDs into the registration form.

EVENT DAY

  1. Check-in for the event in the daylodge from 9 am to 10 am on event day
    1. Competitors will receive their bib and instructors for the event
    2. All competitors must bring a $30 CASH bib deposit to check in for their bibs.  (Deposit is returned later in the day once the event is complete and the bib has been handed back in)

Competition Rules:

  • All registrations must be ONLINE. No on-the-day, in-person registration will be accepted.
  • The Kinky Rail Jam is open to all ages, disciplines, and abilities.
  • Helmets are MANDATORY for all competitors.

2024 Jeep Junior Freeride Presented by Rossignol, Smith Optics & Helly Hansen https://skifernie.com/events/junior-freeride-regionals-2-2/ https://skifernie.com/?post_type=mec-events&p=26553 Fernie Alpine Resort is excited to host the Jeep Junior Freeride IFSA Regional Event. This event provides an opportunity for youth between the ages of 7 and 18 to develop and showcase their freeskiing & freeriding skills in a fun and supportive environment.

To align with the IFSA qualification standards, the event is open to skiers & snowboarders ages 7 to 18, featuring six categories: 7-11 /12-14/15-18 male and female. All age cut-off dates are based on the age turned before December 31, 2023. Competitors will display their skiing skills on natural terrain while being judged on five categories – Line Choice, Control, Fluidity, Technique, and Style/Energy. The Jeep Junior Freeride Series is a part of the Resort of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) ongoing commitment to providing active and healthy pursuits for youth.

ENTRY FEES
$110+gst ($115.50 including tax) per competitor.   Limited spaces are available.

NOTE:   REGISTRATION IS NOW FULL AND A WAITLIST HAS STARTED.

OTHER IMPORTANT EVENT INFO

– All athletes MUST have a current IFSA Membership, Regional Membership and your IFSA username and password to register.

– It is mandatory for all athletes to have a CERTIFIED IFSA COACH with a current IFSA Coach Membership.  This includes Independent Athletes – Independent Athletes must have an IFSA certified Parent Coach

– Helmets and Back Protectors are mandatory

Waivers

All athletes must complete the online RCR Event Release Agreement(s) prior to completing registration this year.

  • Competitors 16yrs and older must complete the RCR Event Agreement. The competitor can complete this waiver.
  • Competitors 15 yrs and younger must complete BOTH the RCR Event Agreement AND the RCR Parental Agreement. The competitor’s parent or legal guardian must complete these two agreements.

Once complete, you will receive a unique “Agreement ID” for each waiver you fill out.  Please save the code(s), as you will need to enter the code(s) during the registration process below.

Get back to your snowboarding roots with the Dirty Dancer Banked Slalom, a throwback to the ’80s when snowboarders were the outlaws of the wild west, banned from most ski resorts and forced to fight for the right to shred! Well, times have changed, and we want you to celebrate by entering this awesome event for all ages.

Participants will get inspection and practice time each day and get one timed run on Saturday and a second on Sunday. The best time over the two days counts towards the podium! If you don’t podium, we will have lots of draw prizes from our sponsors, so there will be plenty of chances to win something!

Mini Grom – 9 years and under (Men and Women)
Grom – 10-14  (Men and Women)
Youth – 15-18 (Men and Women)
Adult – 19-39 (Men and Women)

VOLUNTEER DIGGERS NEEDED:

This event brings together the snowboard community and wouldn’t happen without everyone coming together. Course diggers are needed – help us shape the course! The course build will occur March 18th-22nd from 10 am-4 pm daily. Full-day and Half-day shifts available (Half Day AM 10 am-1 pm & Half Day PM 1 pm-3 pm). 

In return for helping out, volunteers can earn complimentary entry into the event and be entered for a chance to win swag! Complimentary entry will be given for a full day (or two half days), of course, digging help. Plus, every day you help out, your name will go into our exclusive volunteer prize draw for some awesome swag from our sponsors (the more days you help out, the more entries).

Strap on your skis or snowboard and see if you can make it across our Slope Soaker pond.

Participants are encouraged to dress in creative costumes, as crossing the pond is not the only goal. Extra prizes and points will be awarded for creativity/costumes, effort, crowd reaction, biggest splash etc. Plus, all the registered participants are entered for amazing draw prizes from our sponsors!

This fun event is open to anyone 12 years of age and older.

Schedule:

10:30 am – 12:00 pm: Registration/Check-In @ Daylodge (all participants, even pre-registered participants, must check in to receive their bib number)
12:30 pm: All Participants Meeting (Mandatory) @ Bottom of the Pit (located at the bottom of the Timber Chair.
12:45 pm: Head to Start
1:00 pm: Start

AWARDS will occur in the plaza.

Rules:

  • Consumption of alcohol is not permitted during or prior to participation in the event.
  • No nudity or offensive costumes are permitted during the event (remember this is a family-friendly spectator show)
  • Helmets are MANDATORY for all competitors
  • No ski poles allowed (as they damage and tear the tarp liner)
  • Contestants must be on skis or snowboards only (no sleds, GT racers etc.)
  • If you do not cross the pond, the Fernie Search and Rescue team will help you get out of your gear and exit the pond
  • Refrain from trying to stand up and move in the water with your gear on, as sharp edges can damage the pond liner
  • Inverted aerial manoeuvres are NOT permitted
  • All contestants must bring their own towel/blanket for after they exit the pond. Change of clothes is strongly recommended as the water will be very COLD!
  • Small props are allowed with costumes as long as they aren’t restraining and/or a safety hazard to the participant or the crowd. Fire, fireworks etc., are not permitted as props. Event officials have the right to disallow any props that they feel are a safety hazard.
  • No morph suits, face masks or costumes & accessories that cover your nose and/or mouth
  • Event officials can deny entry at any point in the event (registration, start area etc.) if they feel participants may put themselves or others at risk or violate the rules above. Violating the rules above will result in disqualification from the event and may result in suspension or loss of skiing privileges next season.
  • Competitors must check in at the daylodge between 10:30 am and 12:00 pm on the event day (even pre-registered competitors).
